Lenstag is an anti-theft protection service designed to help photographers register their gear to increase the chances of recovery if the items are stolen. This tagging idea is useful for photographers who have amassed a sizeable collection of expensive equipment.
The amazing service is free with an email signup. Owners log in their equipment by make, model and serial numberand so on. Additional photographic proof is required for verification. Final verification is done by a staff member.
Photographers who have lost their gear can flag the missing items as such. Since many cameras and accessories change hands on sites like Craiglist and eBay, checking their list to confirm that a particular item hasn’t been stolen is a good thing. Petapixel reported the story of how a young photographer had unknowingly bought a stolen lens and was able to return it to its rightful owner using Lenstag.
The Finnish Police have already endorsed the site. The Lenstag founder Trevor Sehrer hopes to promote the use of the site with other police forces and partnering with insurance companies.
